Gracie
Gracie is missing. She is being hidden by someone who was suppose to adopt her to a good home. When I spoke to Gracie she says,
“When someone comes over the woman that has me puts me in a back room and she tells me to be quiet it is a secret. She is strange. She is very talkative to some voice in her head and sometimes the voice argues with her. I have to play with another dog to get my mind away from it.”

Empathy For Elephants
I have been brought to streaming tears watching the two videos that American Defenders International (ADI) have released of the company Have Trunks Will Travel allegedly training and handling elephants inhumanely, although the company denies it. Have Trunks Will Travel supplied the elephant, Tai, for the movie Water for Elephants, which was, ironically, about the mistreatment of a circus elephant.
Here I talk to some anonymous Asian elephants that reside in the U.S. about how they are treated.
Elephant #1: “I have learned that people are different than elephants. Elephants care about each other. They care about their feelings and their state of health. People do not care about each other or other species. When they abuse us by poking us and hitting us we have damage to our bodies. We have ringing in our ears from the electricity. We have throbbing in our heads and sides from the deepness and intensity of the bull hooks. We have pain in our chest and genitals from the abuse. People are not kind. We are gentle to them because we know the pain they can inflict on us. Some say they love us but their love comes with pain. Elephants do not love the same.”
Elephant #2: “I have gone almost blind from all the shocking they have done to me. They have stuck electric prods up my ears and pounded me on my head. I cannot see well. They beat me when I miss a step. When visitors are close they stroke my trunk as if they love me. They are cruel. I only know sorrow. When I rest my head in one of the younger trainers’ hands she thinks I love her, but I am really praying she will help me and take the suffering away.”
Elephant #3: “I once knew a human that was filled with love and would never abuse an animal. There is something in a human’s eyes that go angry and cruel when an elephant does not understand. I know there are people speaking out for us. But where are they? Why are they not here?”
Elephant #4: “I have been sick inside for a long time. I have witnessed and endured so much. Just a few people have stroked me gently. I came into this world knowing that people do not understand animals. They abuse us in ways that give me nightmares. We are smart. I understand why elephants go angry and kill their trainers. I understand it because sometimes I have dreams of hurting them. But I am not brave enough to follow through. Where would I go?”
Elephant #5: “It is hard to find joy. They do not even allow us to hang out with each other. The oldest human teaches the other humans to be cruel. The humans may come in with love but the older one destroys it in them as he destroys any sense of comfort we may have.”
Elephant #6: “I hope that everyone who cares takes us away from our abusers and puts us at sanctuaries where we do not need to work or be forced to do tricks that hurt our bodies. I feel a mass amount of people who care. I know there is a better life. I can see it in their thoughts. Please help us. Please take us away. The abuse has not stopped. We are still suffering. It is worse than everyone thinks. Do you see happiness in our eyes? Elephants know how to express joy. We are unable to experience happiness here. Please help us.”

Bruiser On How He Became A Stray
Notes from Bruisers Person:
On a July evening two years ago Bruiser found his way to our back yard and made himself comfortable on our patio furniture. He was in pretty rough shape but we cleaned him up and started to try to find his home to no avail. We have always wanted to know where he came from or if he had a home.
Bruiser is quite a character but this was unexpected. I am curious what story Bruiser will tell Laura next time! Too bad he inadvertently tells on himself in the end.
Laura asks, “Bruiser, how did you become a stray?”
Bruiser answers, “Do I have to talk about my old life?”
Laura: “No, not if you don’t want. But your people are very curious.”
Bruiser: “I fell out of the sky. A helicopter dropped me off. I parachuted to earth.”
Laura: “I don’t believe you.”
Bruiser: “I did. That is what happened….It didn’t involve biting a child. It didn’t. It didn’t.”
I, Laura, asked how Bruiser would know about a helicopter and his person said they live near a hospital so they do see helicopters from time to time. He must of imagined a way to float softly to the ground.
It is possible that Bruiser bit a child and his old person dumped him off and then Bruiser was frightened that if he confessed that his new people may not want him anymore. It is rare that a dogs make up stories. Cats will do it with ease but not dogs. So his past was either something that was too frightening to recreate or that he was ashamed of his past behaviors.
Ultimate Loyalty: Japanese Dog Refuses to Leave Injured Friend Behind
I came across a Japanese newscast YouTube video of a Brittany Spaniel dog that survived the earthquake and tsunami flood. There is devastation as far as the camera can see. The dog approaches the news people. As soon as I see the dog’s eyes I break out into sobs. The Brittany retreats back to what looks like the corpse of another dog. The Brittany sits next to this companion dog (another Brittany Spaniel). I see a leg move and wonder if it is from the Brittany pushing at his friend. Then, the Brittany paws gently at his companion’s face. To my surprise, the companion dog lifts his head. Tears stream down my face – the dog is not dead. He, too, is a survivor. I cannot understand the Japanese newscast but the YouTube video headline states “Ultimate Loyalty: Japanese Dog Refuses to Leave Injured Friend Behind.”
3/17/11 7am pst
Here I talk to the Brittany who watched over his friend:
The Brittany Spaniel says, “We are both safe. I feel many people thinking about me. I have food and water and veterinarians have treated my paws from the sores that I have. I will tell you that for many days before the quake I felt my head hurting and a ringing in my ears. I felt anxious. It was so bad that my friend and I ran far away from home. That is why we survived. I have never run away from home before, but the rumbling noise in my head was so intense that we needed to get farther away from the noise.
I still do not know if my kids are alive but I feel my mom and dad’s hands on me petting me and telling me it will be ok, so I know they are now Angels in Heaven. There are so many spirits trapped and wandering around not knowing that they are dead. They look for their houses and their loved ones. The animals and people who have died and crossed-over are coming back in Angel form so that they can lead their loved ones to a safer world.
I was knocked over by a wave but we scrambled up a hill and on to some debris so we did not get the full impact of the wave. The aftershocks are frightening and there is a terrible smell in the air. The people are thinking about transporting us out, but it is taking longer than they would like. I know I am going to be ok because so many people are taking care of me. They are sharing their food with us. I know they are starving and thirsty themselves. When I close my eyes and try to sleep I hear people screaming, the ringing in my ears, the rumble of the land and water, and the collapsing of buildings. I see faces filled with much fear. I am brave because that is how I survive. I would not leave my friend because my friend is the only thing I have left and he would not leave me. Loyalty and love are what is at the bottom of my Being when everything else has been stripped away.”
This is what animals in the U.S. have said to me since this tragedy:
Sunny James (14 year old orange cat in Santa Fe): “There is a toxic wasteland making mass amounts of people suffer. This is in not even funny. This toxic wasteland that is out there in these peoples’ worlds are going to kill off species of birds. I know this for a fact because I read a spiritual newspaper that floats around in another world. I am very distraught about this. Many species will die off. If you want to look into the ocean, you will see lots of little species dying too.”
Dante (Dog California): “I feel strange now. I feel like I can’t get it back together. How you can say everything is going to be fine when animals and people have all gone out to sea? The sharks are eating them and the sharks are getting sick because they have never eaten them before. There is a feeding frenzy there. I know this because of Izzy.” (see Izzy below)
Izzy (Cat California): “I really think there is going to be a sink hole. They are going to have problems there. A hole is going to open up, you will see. I heard about this tragedy in the minds of humans so I traveled there in my mind. When I got there I realized that there is so much destruction that many animals died. The animals in the sea are very, very sick. They are sick because the in-charge people in Japan are leaking things out into the ocean that they are not telling anyone about. This is a serious matter and many species will die. This will affect generations of those people and animals. It is very sad. Our world will never be the same. The earth will have to work extremely hard to get better. I know this because I am wise.”
{ TRANSLATION OF VIDEO NEWS BROADCAST – From Ai Kusuhara:
Subject: Arahama Translation
My choice of words were not so elegant but it is a direct translation of what the reporter is saying:
We are now in Arahama and we’ve found a dog. It looks dirtied and it must have survived the tsunami. It is wearing a silver collar so it must be someone’s pet. It seems a little alarmed. There is another dog. Is the other dog dead? There is another dog that is not moving. The dog is protecting the other dog. Perhaps telling us not to approach them. I cannot watch this, this is too difficult to watch. The other dog is moving. Its still alive! Seems like the dog is really sick. I wish they could get help right away. The dog woke up! This is great! Seeing these dogs survive the tsunami and earthquake is very heartwarming.
(at the end off camera you hear someone say)
Do we have any food for them?}

Guinny
Guinny says about his fear, “Sometimes when I get scared my eyes see too many things at once. Its like there is too much in front of me.”
What Guinny is saying is that sometimes he does not know how to deal with his fear and it overwhelms him.
What would be helpful is if his person could get him focused on one thing at a time. This is when positive foundation training can come in handy. Teaching him a sit, down, stay or come in scary situations or teach Guinny a “look at me” command. Where he looks at his person’s face when he is nervous.
One can also teach dogs like Guinny to recogizie and use their own calming signals. Body language that helps calm them. These can be licking their lips, yawning, blinking the eyes, looking and looking way, stretching, turning his back, sitting down and lying down… just to name a few.

Winnie
Winnie says, “I could use back massages. I like those……I want to meet a lot of dogs but like you said one on one. I want to be a dog park dog.”
The other dog in Winnie’s family would be too rough with her sometimes. He has recently passed away. Sometimes it may look like a dog does not want to be around other dogs but secretly they truly want to be social. Winnie is ready to learn how to trust being around other dogs. She understands it is a process.
Sweet Pea
Sweety has a friend in her pack named Angel. Angel is just above Sweety in the pack dynamics. Sweety has spoken to me about “Good Angel” and “Bad Angel”.
Sweety says, “Bad Angel…is a scary dog sometimes. I love Good Angel and Good Angel would never hurt me and would like to play with me. She is learning play bow more. That is Good Angel.”
I told Sweet Pea that she should use her calming signals messages in her head to Angel when she senses Bad Angel
Sweet Pea says, “You know what? I am really good at those signals. Have we come to one another to help each other through problems? I love this idea! I am going to tell her that next time. We can be of help to one another.”
Dogs natural way to communicate to one another is through calming signals or body language. Just like with us, their communication can be on reactive mode.
We want our animals to be conscious of everything they are communicating. So often I tell the animals to be conscious of their body language and to use their mind / telepathy as well. I also tell animals to help other animal who are forgetting to use their calming signals. This empowers them in becoming more confident and conscious beings.
Timmy And Makia
During a phone consultation I was speaking to Timmy about traveling in the car. His family was moving to a home twelve hours away. They said that during the last car ride Timmy yowled, threw up, pooped, and peed because of stress.
Timmy then informed me that my cat Makia had also joined in on the conversation. He said, “I want to say that your cat says, ‘Don’t be scared. You are being silly. You might have a way cooler home than you do now. It is always a surprise.’ She said, ‘Don’t stick your head to close to an open window, because the air will rush into you… Just sleep and imagine you are in your favorite place and be glad you have a person. I know cats that don’t. Be calm and if you get scared go back in your carrier.”
Timmy’s person informed me that he did very well on the car ride and did exactly what Makia told him. I have an assistant!
Gwyn’s Anxiety Is Helped By Her Wrap
Gwyn says, “I don’t dislike the other dogs. It is just that my body reacts.”
An anxiety wrap can help with dogs that get fearful and / or aggressive. They bring awareness to the body helping the dogs be more present and confident. These shirts can also help dogs feel more brave and secure during thunderstorms.
