Joey

To all my loyal readers,

I am sorry that I disappeared for while. My animal family have been through some serious medical issues in the last couple of weeks.

It seems that when my animals were suffering I pulled inward so that I could concentrate on their healing and drive them to vet visits, the chiropractor, nutritionist and herbalist as well as the lessons these experiences were teaching my animal family and myself.

Makia is doing well.  Her body no longer wants insulin so we are trying to find another alternative to bring her glucose levels to normal.  She feels ok but could feel much better.  Joey has had no fluids around his lungs for almost a week, but he is tired and not himself.

We are all regaining our strength and energy and are happy that everyone is alive.  On another note our pet psychic radio show is becoming very popular (we are live this week), I have made some wonderful connections for my business in the last few weeks, and am working on an exciting project. Good things are manifesting for the future!

The last few weeks have been an balancing act between extreme gratefulness, sorrow, joy, abundance, the feeling that my animals may soon leave this plane and eye opening miracles.  I have learned many lessons these last few weeks that will help many of my client animals.

A newsletter will be out this week and I will get back to posting more regularly.  Thank you for tuning in and for all those wrote to me to say you missed my posts.  I am back :) !

Joey

Joey my 17-year young oldest cat had been coughing for a few weeks.  I thought it was hairballs at first but then the hairballs stopped appearing.  I thought maybe it was allergies because my living room air purifier stopped working. Then the cough had a subtle watery sound to it and Joey appeared to be in discomfort.  My animals are stoic.  I don’t know if it is that they rarely admit to their suffering or that they just accept their feelings as unchangeable.  I feared Joey had fluid in or around his lungs so on a Saturday afternoon on took him our friends at Buena to be checked.  He has been diagnosed with Chylothorax.  This is when the lymphatic symptoms dumps fat, a fluid that looks like skim milk, into a lining that surrounds the lungs.  It can be painful to breath.  On Sunday, Joey was prepared to die but when we entered VMSG it was so cold and sterile that he changed his mind.  He listened to the specialist, weighed his options and then opted to be drained and wait for our long time veterinarian Dr. Otto to come back into town on Tuesday to make a decision for us.  On Tuesday, Joey still wanted to live so we drained him for the third time and Dr. Otto told us to pray for a miracle.  We told him we have already started.  Now it is Thursday morning, I check on him constantly, watch his breathing with a specialist’s eye and listen alertly for any sign of cough.  I tell my clients that most animals are ready to die when suffering outweighs joy.  Now I ask Joey, “How do you feel about all of this?”

Joey says,

I feel like a miracle is happening.  I feel when I breathe it still hurts a little bit.  Maybe I have fluid in me again but I feel a soft light all around me and when I concentrate on that soft light I feel it penetrating deep into my body.  I want to live longer because you tell me that I can get better then I was before.  That with the power of herbs, love and faith I can become anything that I want to become.  I don’t want to suffer.  I want to be around more to see the birds and to experience more nature.  I want to move to the country.  I miss nature.  I want to live in the country again before I die.  Sometimes I feel sad because I feel like we should have a farm.  I remember what it was like to have the pigs and the parrot and I miss that life style.  It is not that I don’t like watching the people go by it is just that I miss the sound of hearing nature for long periods of time.  I miss the smell of the wind from the mountains and the smell of dirt in the woods.  I miss seeing deer.  I don’t want to hear cars so much anymore.  If we could move to the county again then I think I would live more joyfully.  Can we move to the country, mom?”

We have lived in our house, in town, nine years now.  For the same reason as Joey describes we have thought about selling our house and moving to Whidbey Island, WA or back to the lake country of NY.  (Joey used to go canoeing with me when we lived on Peach Lake).  My animal family and I send a call out to our readers.  Does anyone know of a rental that fits Joey’s description?  There are many of us.  Stormy the Aussie, Luca the poodle, Bean the bunny and the cats Joey, Makia and Serafina.  We are clean and tidy and respectable of space.  It is time for us to move.  Joey says, “We want a sacred place where the spirits love the land and the people who once lived their created beauty.  We want a place that opens our hearts and inspires us to live.”  If you have any ideas you can contact us at laura@thepetpsychic.com or 805.895.5968

Makia’s Near Death Experience

Makia

Three days before Makia, my 15 year-old, pure white diabetic cat, died and then came back to life, I noticed a couple of strange behaviors.

For example, she started to eat ravenously in the middle of the day. This I thought indicates a need for more insulin, so although I didn’t give her the insulin, I scheduled a glucose test for later in the week.  I became aware that Makia had started napping in Bean’s (my sassy bunny) crate in her room. This isn’t where she usually sleeps during the day, but because Makia has always liked small, dark places I didn’t think much of it.  In fact, I thought it was nice that Makia was keeping Bean company.  Then, on the day of the incident, Makia meowed in the kitchen. “That’s it,” I thought, “…something is wrong. Are you ok, Makia?”  I asked.  “Yeah. Fine, Mom, just a bit dizzy. Can you feed me?”

Makia has been known to not exactly tell the truth when it comes to how sick she feels.  She can endure an awful amount of suffering and still be happy.  Once, while a bear was chasing her, she split her stomach open by eight inches.  I didn’t even realize she had a deep wound until she was calmly grooming herself two hours later.  I have wondered if Makia goes into denial about her suffering, but in actuality it is a strong character trait.

Ten minutes after I fed her, she walked by my office window and once again meowed.  I stopped working immediately because her meow didn’t sound “right”.  I got up and brought her into my office so I could watch her. She was there only a few minutes when I realized I had been wrong. She needed less insulin. Makia was about to have a hypoglycemic episode. She started projectile vomiting “Mom my stomach doesn’t feel good”, had head seizures “I kind of have a headache and my eyes feel funny” and then right before she passed out, Makia curled up with Stormy (my Aussie) and told him, “Stormy, I feel strange.”

When I picked her up and tried to have her stand, she defecated on me and collapsed. Her eyes looked at me and then rolled back into her head.  As my adrenaline pumped and rushed through my veins, I paced, breathed and thought, “Forget the carrier, we are in the car!”

On the thirty-minute drive to the Veterinarian, I did everything I knew to do in such situations.  I smeared her gums with maple syrup, rubbed her ears to help bring her out of shock, prayed to a Higher Power, and prepared Makia for death by saying things like: “The Buddha will be in Heaven.  You love the Buddha – just like the statue you lay by. We can still talk from Heaven. You will see Maia, your old doggie sister and you will feel a great peace.  It’s a wonderful feeling in Heaven.”

This, I mixed with “Hold on Makia. Stay with me.  You have to see our new cat garden and the butterflies that will come. Stay in your body.”  Makia spoke little at first and when she did it was mostly about fear, having a headache and feeling sick.  I thought to myself, “I speak to dead people and animals.  I have friends on the Other Side.  I need a favor!”

Then I called out, “Please help us.” I began to chant positive statements of health, “My body is alive and well-balanced” and the names of ancient healing symbols.

Immediately after I called for help, Makia saw angels. “Mom, there are some glittery people here.” She felt a warm energy when I imagined my hands healing her.  “Mom your hands are hot.” At one point, she was being comforted by my Grandfather on the Other Side. “Your Grandpa is here with a few little doggies.” She told me she saw a bright light and felt her spirit traveling away from her body and wondered if she should go with my Grandpa.  “Mom, I’m dying.  I don’t want to die,” she said as her listless body draped over my lap. Her eyes dimmed and drifted to crossing.

It is an image I will never forget and haunts me when I close my own eyes.  “She’s dead,” I thought and shook her with no response.  “Makia come back to your body,” I called, stroking her ears and trying to watch her eyes while I drove.  Then her eyes shifted a little and looked at me. “I don’t feel well,” she offered.

It’s a hard thing to stay calm in an emergency, drive through traffic, prepare a loved one to cross over, and keep them hanging on at the same time.  I thought how lucky I am to hear Makia and to know what she is experiencing.  I felt amazed and calmed that my prayers were answered and that help from the Other Side came immediately.  Whether she lived or died, I was comforted by the fact that she had someone’s arms to fall into.  What do other pet owners do in such situations?  I know.  Some panic and some have blind faith.

Makia’s situation made me realize that even during our greatest trauma and our most frightening moments all we need to do is ask for help.

The angels were not there until I called them.  And although he was allergic to cats and may have met Makia once, long ago, I wasn’t surprised that my Grandfather came for her. I have heard stories over and over again about how people in Heaven come for the pets of their loved ones when the animal crosses over.  They do it because they love us.

After her near-death experience, Makia now says, “I have seen Heaven in a different way.  When you are first there it is a feeling of being lost and found at the same time.  I am happy I get to see my butterfly / cat garden here on earth. I want to thank my doctors for giving me the magic medicine water (intravenous fluids) and I want to thank my Mom for calling in help when I could not do so.  I have learned we are never alone.”

Zanny

Zanny

Zanny was diagnosed with Cancer in his Jaw.  He made up these affirmations to help himself heal,

“I love life and it loves me.  Energy is abundant and I accept all that I am able.  My doctors have faith in their new way of thinking.  my mom and I are courageous and we do fun things.   My body feels strong and healthy.”

Zanny also said,

I want to say that I have known that something was seriously wrong for a long time but I am very grateful for all that mom is doing. The doctors can be discouraging because they feel so guilty and bad for me. They feel guilty because they feel like modern medicine causes these problems. They do put me on that medicine because they dont know what else to do. They are helpless but I feel like my mom and I are not helpless. I feel like we have a lot of integrity in being. Yes, it means that we have this way about us that wants to live the kindness way in the world.

I was wondering could I have been bitten by something and then this caused this, cause I remember eating a long legged bug. I am sort of feeling that it is not cancer that it is poison from a bite. after we talked and after the doctor I have been thinking a lot about what else it is cause there was a dog at the hospital that says cancer makes you feel ravenous and it makes you feel like you are being eaten and I dont feel that way.

I am getting better.

When I die will I meet who every created me and gave me my body? I want to ask them why they gave me a body that had a problem. I think who ever it is needs to be there to explain it to me. I think it is important.

What will that being look like? How will I know him when I see him? I have a sense of knowing that I will grow old. Yes, i feel it. If it doesn’t happen then I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again – me get a damaged body.

JOJO

JOJO

I asked JoJo a 13 year old cat why he does not use the litter box.  This is what he said.
“It hurts to stretch my neck out and it hurts to step in (long strides). You know what I have hard time in the litter box cause I have to turn in such a narrow circumference. My dad gets a pain in his back down his legs and sometimes I get that. Dad, maybe you need a chiropractor too? Maybe dad and I could go together?”

This is from JoJo’s person: “We took JoJo to a feline chiropractor the next day, and he had treatments for six weeks. We also changed the litter to the recommended type and changed his litter box to a lower profile version. Since his session, he has not urinated outside of the litter box! I’m so happy that we could do something to help JoJo, especially after all the vets we’ve taken him too without any resolution. He is such a sweet kitty and I hope now he’s feeling better. You are the BEST!”

Sassy

Sassy

Sassy says, “Are you our God?  Did our god send you?”

I told her that I was not a God but perhaps her God sent me.

She replied, “My mom has a God that sits next to her.  She is pretty woman that wears bright colored flowered shirts.  She loves my mom so she loves me too. She comes and calms my mom when I do not feel well.”

This is her person’s deceased mother.

Gracie

Gracie

Gracie says, “My new food is better on my stomach but I still have pains after I eat. The pains are a bloated gas feeling. I also have a little pain in my jaw and in my left snout.”

Feed back from Gracie’s person:  Two days after Gracie told you this, we took her to our chiropractor, and he adjusted her spine and jaw. She has been eating much better since the adjustment. Thank you for your help!

Samantha

Samantha

Samantha is going to the veterinarian to get a tooth removed.  Her mom told me to tell her that there is a very sweet handsome intern that is going to assist in the operation.

Samantha then replied, “Does my mom want to see the handsome man or does she just think an angel sent him for me to look at when I am falling asleep.”

A Trip To The Vet? Talk To Your Animals

Often I hear about how people’s animals hate the veterinarian hospital:“My dog shakes and pants at the vet. I literally have to drag him in there.”

“He is not a biter but they have to muzzle him at the vet.”

“My dog is car phobic. She thinks whenever we put her in the car she is going to go to the vet. She salivates and paces in the car. She still hasn’t learned that we take her to fun places too.”

“My cat hates the cat carrier. If I take it out of the closet she runs and hides in places I cannot find her. I have to lock her in the bathroom the night before.”

My animals, on the other hand, while not thrilled about their experiences at the vet, go willingly in their carriers. They enjoy the car ride and are amicable when the doctor and the technician need to handle them.

Why is this? It is simple. Knowledge is power. My animals know why they have been neutered or spayed, why they are getting stuck with needles, why their ears are pricked or their bladders drained, and why the doctor with strange plugs in his ears bends over them holding a cold mirror to their chest. Most importantly, my pets know why they are being taken away from me, and whether they’ll be staying for only moments, for the day, or for several days.

When you do not explain to your animal what is happening to them, they develop fears and insecurities. They will come up with their own ideas about why they are being tortured at the building that smells strongly of cleaning products, hums with the sounds of electricity, and has the air of death and fear about.

Talk to your animals before and during visits to the animal hospital. I can assure you that they will understand. Be clear by telling them everything that will happen and why. You can either explain out loud or in your head while trying to picture procedures in step-by-step images.

Here are some things you can say, depending on the circumstances:

“We are going to the doctor’s. It is a place where animals heal and get medicine to feel better. The doctor or his assistant will stick you with a needle to draw some blood. The amazing thing about your blood is that it can tell the doctor everything that is going on inside of your body and its organs.

“You know how you have been peeing outside the litter box? He will test your bladder also to see if you have an infection and what medicine you may need to make you feel better. What he does may be slightly uncomfortable, but you need it in order to feel better.”

“He will listen to your heart with a strange tool he puts in his ears. It makes sure your heart is beating normally.”

Maybe a toothache has been plaguing your pet. Try this: “You have an infected tooth. It may be causing you pain when you eat. Do you have an earache or headache? We have to take the tooth out so you can feel better.”

“The doctor has to give you a shot that makes you feel dizzy and fall asleep. When you are asleep he will take the tooth out. When you wake up you will feel very sick and disoriented. You might feel like you’re going to throw up. Lights will seem strange. You may be put in a cage that reflects light in odd ways. But relax: You will feel normal again. You may have stitches in your mouth, but they will dissolve and you will feel way better than you did before. I promise. You will be at the vet’s all day long. I will pick you up at nighttime.”

Talk to the other animals while you are waiting and picture in your mind why they are there. Tell them what you know. Tell them that the visit will help them. Tell them to be brave.

I like our vet. I truly feel that he is good at keeping animals healthy. He loves animals and so do the people that work there. So I tell my pets: “They want you to be healthy. Remember that.”

When you speak to your pet remember to talk in positives. Tell them, “Be confident,” rather than “Don’t be scared.” It’s better to say, “I will pick you up around dinner time,” than to say, “I won’t leave you.” “The vet does these things to help you; they have a purpose,” is more consoling and more believable than, “The vet won’t hurt you.” Instead of “You won’t feel sick anymore,” say, “You will feel better.”

Otter

OTTER

Otter is an older dog.  His people wanted to check in with him to see how he is doing and if he has anything to say to them.

Otter says, “I love mom’s gently hand massages. You can tell dad that when he talks to mom tell him to talk softly. You can tell dad I love him.  You can tell him thank you for taking care of mom when she gets upset. I am glad he can do that.  You can tell mom thank you for talking to dad and telling him what to do.  I mean helping him figure out what to do.  I would like really chewy treats several times a day.”

I always think it is special that when animals are towards the end of their life they will talk about things that they are grateful for.  Animals know that in many ways they take care of us.  They like to reassure people in the home that they can take care of each other when they (the animal) passes away.  This is what I believe Otter is doing for his people.

Galahad

Galahad

Galahad says, “You know that old man I didn’t like.  He is sick inside.  I just didn’t want to catch it.  He is sick around his groin and lungs.  He is not healthy.  He also is not a good listener.”

It always amazes me what animals can perceive.  It turns out that the man that Galahad is talking about has had a few hernia surgeries and at the time Galahad saw the man he had a cold.  Sometimes the animals see colors around sick parts of our body or they smell a different or foul odor coming form an individual.  Sometimes this frightens the animals and they become worried that they may get sick or that the people are dangerous.  When this is not always so.  This can also happens between other animals in the house.  Sometimes I will hear that an animal attacks a another animal for “no apparent” reason.  Sometimes the animal that was attacked has cancer or another sickness.
