RESCUE GUEST HUMAN & DOG:

Jill Gasparac

What Is Your Passion or Your Story
Saving senior dogs! I mainly save senior pets, giving them a peaceful place to spend their last days/months/years. I mostly save them from our local shelters, but also have taken in owner surrender and foreclosure dogs. Recently I saved 10 dogs from a hoarding situation and have been working with the Kern shelter this past month regarding these dogs.

APe Action: Animals, People, and Environment Action
Website  http://www.apeaction.org
Address  West Hollywood, Ca

We really are in need of foster homes/donations and sponsors. We can’t save dogs w/o donations or the help of people by fostering them for us until they are adopted. Senior pets are usually very easy to foster and just need a nice soft bed and some love and attention. We could save so many more that are dying each day in shelters if people would foster. WE are working on our first PSA and it’s going to be about the need for people to help by fostering!

Zorro 5-10 years old Chihuahua

Zorro Needs A Home

History or Story
A recent save from the hoarder situation. He was supposedly 5 yrs old, per the shelter intake paperwork, but he seems like he might be older than that. Has health issues and is a special needs pet because of this.

Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal
What is your favorite thing about being here? Would you like to be at the other foster home instead?

How did you end up at the hoarder house?

Do you understand that you are safe here and we are working on finding you the perfect home that will treat you like a king and love you forever?

Do you understand that when you get upset and bark, you make yourself cough and that’s not good for you? (can you ask him if he’s barking when I leave? I hear it when I come home, but not when I’m leaving so not sure if it’s only when they know I’m back or the whole time I’m gone!)

You need to stay calm so you can breathe AND you need to take your medicine so it can help you breathe!

Anything else?
Please go to our website to find out how you can adopt/foster/donate/volunteer…we need people to do so many little things that will be so helpful. Fundraising is a major part of rescue and we need people to help with that if they can’t adopt/foster/donate.

What Do You Want Us To Mention On The Show or Ask You
We really hope to inspire people to give pit bulls a chance. They used to be the #1 family dog in this country. They are exploited, abused and abandoned maybe more than any other breed, over bred and dumped and shelters, and the last to be adopted. They are so loving and eager to please and have such big hearts. They deserve for people to look beyond the myths.

Ace

History or Story
Ace was found as a stray, taken to a local shelter, bailed out by a nice family who could not keep him but did not want him to die. He was boarded at a very nice boarding facility and then came to our sanctuary. He is very distrustful of people and can only be handled by a couple of us. He actually bit one of our volunteers out of fear. We intend to stand by him and give him his bets shot at finding balance, trust, and love so that he can eventually find a home.
Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal
What happened to make you so distrustful?
How can we help you feel more comfortable?
Do you know that you are safe now and that you are surrounded by people who will never hurt you, and want to make your life better?
What can we do to make your life better while you are with us?
We have been unsure about introducing you to other dogs because of possible aggression. Would you like to play with other dogs or do you prefer not to?
Is there anything you would like to tell us?
Anything else?
We would like him to know he is safe, loved and valued. We want to help him live his best possible life and we need to understand how to do that.

RESCUE GUEST     Robin Budin with Dog Deserve Better

What Is Your Passion or Your Story:

My passion is rescuing formerly chained or penned dogs from their life in filth, feces and squalor, rehabilitating them and getting them new homes.

Website    http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org
Website #2 http://www.rainbowrescues.org
Address:  Chicopee, MA 01020

Dogs Deserve Better is a national anti chaining organization. A new rehab for formerly chained dogs was bought in Smithfield Va. The house that Michael Vick, the football player who fought pitbulls and executed pitbulls on his property was bought and turned into the Good Newz Rehab Center.

They need donations for fencing, for fixing up the property to ultimately handle 50 formerly chained or penned dogs.
I also work locally with Rainbow Rescues out of Chicopee MA and would like people in the New England area to go to www.rainbowrescues.org and look at all of our adoptable animals.
Name of Animal
Lulu
Age 1.5 years
Species Dingo Dog

Lulu Needs A Home

Lulu was found in MS in an RV Park thrown away. For 10 days runners were bringing her food and the security guard at the RV Park knew the police were planning to kill the dog so a rescuer in MS went and got her and got in touch with me to help her. She kept Lulu in her pack of 20 dogs for 2 months to somewhat socialize her to get her ready to be transported. She was a scared mess when she got to me and gets a little better each day but 5 weeks ago she twisted her ankle and has not recovered yet. She wont go for walks yet, she wont really go outside in the back on her own and she loved being in the yard the first 2 months she was here. She has been to the vet, there is no break, but the healing is slow slow slow.

Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal
I want to know how she feels, if it hurts, why she wont push the doggie door open to get inside or out (she just sits by it waiting for me to push the door an inch). Does she like it here, does she like the animals living here with her and will she want to go for walks again and be outside again and when will she stop barking at new people she never met before.

RESCUE GUEST & ANIMAL

Date You Are Scheduled    Tuesday, January 10, 2012
Your Name *     Dee Baldus

What Is Your Passion or Your Story
I have started an organization called Paws for Troops. There is the upshot.

Paws for Troops is a group of volunteers that are enabling military veterans and animals to heal from trauma together.

It is our belief that animals are healing and they offer a level of acceptance to us that is unequaled. With that in mind, we also believe that the military training the veterans have received bring a level of trust to animals in distress.

As an organization, we are looking to assist military organizations, such as the VA and others, by facilitating the veterans as volunteers at local animal shelters and rescue groups.

The goal, at all times, is to maintain dignity for both the veterans and the animals. We believe that we can assist in raising the awareness for the needs of both group and this can offer new opportunities for the veterans.

I will be featuring a dog from one of our rescue groups, Star Paws.

Paws for Troops
Website:  http://www.pawsfortroops.com
Website #2 :    http://www.starpawsrescue.com
Address     :  Los Angeles, CA 91423

We are looking to launch in 2012 and need to file the 501(c)3. I am doing some fund raising to complete that. Once that is filed, we are ready to go. We will begin by taking veterans to rescue adoption days, such as Star Paws, and have them be with the animals. Walking them, holding them, showing them to potential adopters. Another option is to work with a mobile groomer, assisting them when the do volunteer grooming shelter adoption days.

What Is Your Passion or Your Story:
I met Laura because she talked with several of my own dogs, which are all rescues, and then I started having her listen to dogs that didn’t have homes yet. When you have dogs that have made it out of a shelter only to be abandoned yet again by rescues or adopters, they have to board to stay safe and this isn’t just expensive, it is very difficult and confusing for the dog, too.

Helping dogs any way I can is what drives me, and I appreciate that Laura’s abilities have made such a positive impact.

What Do You Want Us To Mention On The Show or Ask You
Friends of Irving Animal Services Foundation is a non-profit created to help as many dogs as possible reach the safety of loving and responsible homes. We are not a rescue that takes in dogs ourselves, though most of us have fosters in our homes that were abandoned by adopters or rescues. Instead, we use the power of a large social network to get the dogs the exposure they need and then tirelessly assist rescues and adopters with funding, medical care, transport and whatever else we possibly can supply or do to help save these precious lives.

Instead of just telling people they should adopt their next pet and take proper care of them, we focus on the practical actions that help make these things happen. It is our goal to make our shelter, Irving Animal Services, the first genuinely “no-kill” municipal shelter in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. If we can do it we hope to be a model for other shelters to follow. Others are already using our format to network and fund their shelter pets, so we believe it is just a matter of time and persistence before it becomes a wonderful reality. We know no matter how hard we may try, it’s a community effort.

Name of Animal    Trooper
maybe 2 years  dog, male, neutered
pit-border collie mix

Trooper

Trooper Needs A Home

History or Story
Trooper came to a Dallas-area shelter with what appears to be a deliberate chemical burn along his spine and despite his winning personality Trooper was constantly overlooked by adopters and rescues alike…who knows why, maybe his breed, his size, his beautiful black fur, the fact that he didn’t look perfect. His angel Jennifer rescued him and got him healthy but he has been boarding for months now with no interest. He is very friendly and loveable and really needs his own home and people to love.
Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal
How did you become a stray? What happened to your back? Why do you not like other dogs…and do you think you could live in a home with other dogs and if so, what kind/sex would make you most at ease? What kind of owner would make you happiest? Is there anything you want to tell us, anything you need or that bothers you?
Anything else?
Trooper has his own facebook page! It is called A Forever Home for Trooper. If you would like to inquire about Trooper, this is the best place to do it, or email iasfriend@gmail.com
You can make a tax-deductible contribution to Trooper’s boarding expenses through the Friends of Irving Animal Services Foundation. The PayPal address is iasfriend@gmail.com, or send a check to the address provided above. Or you can go to our Facebook page and look at the wonderful pets still desperately in need of a home before Christmas and choose a dog that is in need of assistance and sponsor that dog directly…or adopt!
Every single cent is used to help needy dogs; we are all volunteers and we pay the administrative overhead out of our own pockets so that the generosity of kind people can go farther to helping dogs like Trooper.

Jayne Miller with OreCat.org

Jayne emailed me: I am founder/director of www.OreCat.org, and I wonder if Oregon’s cougars know how much I love them and how I am trying to save and protect them from hunting. To the world I am a polished business woman, farmer, public speaker, author and artist who never talks about the above. But to those who understand, I am all of the above.

Websites:

Jayne also emails me:

Please ask the cougars if they know I am trying to protect their lives by way of a Bill called License To Protect by OK to ask?  Do they feel my energy, to they “hear” my love for them?

About 8 years ago there was a cougar who walked with me on our farm.  It was after dark under the savannah oaks and I could not see the cougar, but knew something was there.  As I walked, they walked.  When I stopped, they stopped.

The next morning I found cougar tracks about 8 feet from were I was walking.  The cougar walked with me about 900 feet or more unseen.   I believe he/she may be dead.  They had to cross a freeway to find my farm.

All told, there were 3 unusual cougar happenings, one actually being a plant called Possum Haw, that helped me start Oregon Cougar Action Team and the Bill License To Protect.  It is a Bill I have designed to help protect cougars and it is a Bill that has the potential to happen in other States.

See this months Natural Geographic to learn about the vanishing big cats.  This article includes cougars.  My idea of this Bill seems very timely and I plan on posting License To Protect in more detail on OreCat’s website this coming weekend!

I got the Bill introduced at last years State Legislative session, but the Agriculture Committee, by law, reviews all wildlife Bills and they changed it so much I did not recognize it!  Both my draft of the License To Protect, Representative Buckely’s request for the Bill and the final butchered version of my idea, Bill 1202 are attached.

I plan on tying again this next session to reintroduce the original Bill unaltered by any committees. If all goes well with the interview on your radio, may OreCat create a link too it?   Thank you so much!

Below is a picture of a mother and her cub.  I do not know how old they are or if they are still alive.  But the picture catches hearts.

What Is Your Passion or Your Story
My passion is to Stop the killing of cougar and wolves. To give them safe homes and places just to be what God made them to be. To enjoy seeing the God Light and energy round them and what they give back to the ecosystems that keeps us all living well. They are good energy and we need to remove the darkness from our hearts that kills them and instead learn to live fear free of them and to believe in their great purpose. I sincerely hope that my idea, License To Protect, will help achieve this.
License To Protect would create a new employer for Oregon Department Of Fish & Wildlife (ODFW) by way of the non-hunting Oregonian (or any Oregonian) buying a nonlethal license for cougar or wolves at the same cost as a killing license; thus reducing the numbers of wolves and cougar killed. ODFW, The Federal Government Wildlife Agency, Oregon’s Agriculture Department and any other agency involved with the killing of cougar and wolves; would be required to hold to the letter of the law License To Protect and not increase kill quotas to offset the cougar and wolves saved from death that LTP would achieve. Currently, there are more Bills and programs from the above organizations established without an environmental impact risk factor or unbiased outside peer review done before thrusting them upon Oregon’s ecosystems; to kill cougar and wolves, thus insuring that there is no true protection for either species at this time.

I grew up on our family’s 7000 acre cattle ranch my father managed using the knowledge of Aldo Leopold. We did not allow hunting and I walked with the wildlife including cougar. 30 years later on my farm in the heavily populated Willamette Valley, a cougar came and found me and walked with me and asked me in my heart to start Oregon Cougar Action Team. A plant, Possum Haw, which is extinct on the East Coast because the cougar has been killed off; came to my farm in that fall desquised as a dogwood, but then in the Spring told me that it was a plant nearly gone because it had lost it’s keystone protector – the cougar. I started Oregon Cougar Action Team a 501c3 educational foundation with no money. Apparently, it was not needed. People came instead and an attorney who did all the paper work for the NFP, probono. We were immediately put on K2New and in several newspapers. The energy is right, the purpose is good and it all conn ects.
Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal

RESCUE GUEST & ADOPTABLE PIG INFORMATION:

Date You Are Scheduled Thursday, November 17, 2011
Your Name * Crystal KimHan
Your Email * crystal@vegaspigpets.org
What Is Your Passion or Your Story
I run a one person potbelly pig rescue and placement. I received my 501(c)(3) non-profit designation in Dec, 2008 to try and gain donations to help more pigs. My specialty in helping owners understand and train their pigs before they just give up on their unruly animal and turn them into a shelter. I also run a anti-teacup pig website to try and battle the lies breeders tell to run up the prices on the potbelly pigs they sell.

Website #2 if you have another http://www.teacuppig.info
Address

What Do You Want Us To Mention On The Show or Ask You
What do people need to know before buying any potbelly pig, especially a piglet?
Why are pigs such specialized pets?
What is all the hype over a teacup, micro mini, pocket pig?
Name of Animal
Pumba
Age
1 year
Species
Pig
Breed
Potbelly Pig

Pumba Needs A Home

Pumba Needs A Home

History or Story
Pumba and 6 of his piglets were taken from an illegal backyard breeder (not zoned or licensed to breed). I took him and the 2 runt piglets and another rescue took the other 4. The owner had 30 days to spay his female and could claim Pumba back, but never did. Upon exam, the vet found that he has what looks like cataracts and so does Percy, one of his piglets. Pumba is almost blind right now so will need a specialized home that he can learn to navigate but also keep him in a routine as without sight, he gets easily confused. He is welcome to stay at VegasPigPets until that special home is found, but we hope we can find him a home that he can have a friend that will eventually become his eyes. He is sweet as can be but without sight a prey animal needs the protection of his herd.
Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal
How do you feel not being able to see well?
How do you feel when other “new” pigs come into VegasPigPets and you don’t know them? Does it scare you?
What kind of new home would you like?
Are you afraid of dogs?
How do you feel about about Percy and Pip Squeak going to a new home together without you?
Anything else?
I would like to spend some time talking about this teacup pig craze that has resulted in so many pigs coming into our rescues and sanctuaries because they have “outgrown” their homes and didn’t stay as small as promised. I have run my teacup website on behalf of rescues and sanctuaries nationwide who are so frustrated with the lies but try to put the well being of the pig first. Space is already at a premium and if people would not fall for these lies, breeders would have to stop breeding! A regular pbpig breeder maybe gets $50 a pig, put a teacup in the name and they can get $1000 – $5000!

RESCUE GUEST HUMAN & DOG:

Date You Are Scheduled    Thursday, November 10, 2011
Your Name *     Jill Gasparac

What Is Your Passion or Your Story
I started with dog rescue and then dog training but knew I didn’t want to be just a dog rescue group…socially conscious consumerism was always an issue for me.

I discovered a passion for senior pets once my own dog, Roxanne, got up in age and I adopted a senior lab from the shelter to keep her company in her final years. That started the ball rolling towards forming a nonprofit.

We are a 501C3 non-profit organization committed to promoting change by raising public awareness about the interconnection of humans, animals, and the earth. We want to educate people to be socially responsible in their actions and purchases and want to help build a more conscious, aware and compassionate world.

What Do You Want Us To Mention On The Show or Ask You
The need for people to stop breeding and buying dogs when dogs in our local shelters are being killed every day. The need for people to spay and neuter their pets.

The need for people to adopt dogs from rescue groups or shelters and to consider senior pets.

Saved from a local LA shelter right before she was going to be put to sleep. Was told she was 10 yrs old…..my vet she’s only 5 or 6 years old.
Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal
What happened to her?
Where did she come from?
Is she happy here?
What type of home would she like to be in?
Why is she still going potty in the house?
Why doesn’t she understand that potty is only outside?
What can I do to make her more happy and secure whille she is with me?
Is there anything she would like to tell me?
Anything else?
We need foster homes and we need people to help us fundraise.

I had to close my sanctuary due to lack of funding and we now operate Sammy’s Place through foster homes only.

We can only save so many due to space and funding. We need more compassionate foster homes or last home fosters.

We need people to donate to the cost and care of the pet if they are not able to foster or adopt.

Donations can be sent via paypal to donate@apeaction.org

No Kill Kern county-California. 80% of the animals that enter out US “shelter” systems are Killed. In many areas when the No Kill equation is adopted the kill stats are reduced dramatically almost over night. As an animal loving nation WE have to stop the slaughter. We have to demand better for all the animals. some of the fioxes are as simple as changing the “shelter” hours to be more conducive to ADOPTION byu being open when the adopting public is available. We have been fed the “killing Is kind” paradigm fat to LONG. by calling it euthanazia WE perpetuate the myth….

They were dumped at a humane pet store and due to space limits they were being kept in a small space separately where they did not have enough room to hop. The owner did not want them abandoned in the neighborhood as there are tons of coyotes. He was doing the best he could but I could not stand to see them in such a small space. We took them in got them neutered and have had them since Febuary. They are beautiful and now a bonded pair of brothers. We bought them a large dog kennel 5 x 5 feet but sadly they cannot roam free in our yard due to the coyotes
Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal
Are they happy? What would make them happy? Why when they are let out in the yard when we are around to watch them do they go to the back neighbor’s yard? Is your space large enough? Are you brothers or friends? What is your ideal home? Is there anything you want to tell us?

I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue is all about heart! Our team has some of the biggest hearts around! I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue was founded in the Fall of 2010 and has quickly taken on the reputation of helping and rescuing those who no one else will help. I.C.A.R.E. does not limit our rescue based on how sick a dog in need might be. If they need us, we are there! However, the Rescue does NOT end with the pull! Many of our dogs have had a long road to recovery before they can find their forever homes. Because we choose to rescue those dogs that need us the most, those who are seen as “unadoptable”, many of our dogs are being treated or have been treated for Pneumonia, Kennel Cough, Coccidia, Giardia and much more. We have nursed the extremely emaciated, those diseased with parvo, those with broken limbs, and those who’s spirits have been broken so terribly that they need to be taught how to feel love and how to trust. Through all of this our hearts have been broken as a few have not survived despite our efforts, but our hearts have also been filled with joy as we have seen those dogs that were once abused, abandoned, and forgotten begin to know love and trust. There is nothing like seeing that once sick and terrified pup in the arms of his/her forever family.

I.C.A.R.E. is an all breed, no kill dog rescue. We rescue dogs at risk of being euthanized from shelters, abandoned, abused, and stray dogs. We also rescue many owner surrendered dogs; which are dogs that can no longer remain in their current homes due to financial or personal issues. I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue is dedicated to reducing the number of dogs that are euthanized in our shelters each and everyday. We focus on rescuing and rehabilitating them in loving foster homes until they are adopted into their permanent homes. We also focus on educating the public regarding specific breeds, rescue, and general information regarding the canine species. We are a 100% volunteer run and supported organization that cannot survive without the help of loving fosters, volunteers, and benefactors. Please contact us if you wish to contribute in any way.

Guest Today:  Joy Lee
She writes:
I am co-owner of Rover Oaks Pet Resort in Katy Texas, a resort committed to the highest quality care for boarding, grooming, training and doggie daycare.

I am also very passionate about animal rescue and giving less fortunate pets than those of our client base a chance for a loving home.

This means frequently taking in pups who are having a difficult time getting adopted and working with them on training or behavior problems to give them a better chance, or taking in dogs who are out of time at various shelters to foster them until adoption.

I work frequently with Citizens for Animal Protection here in the Houston area…Citizens for Animal Protection (or CAP) is one of the largest 501 (c) (3) organizations in the Houston area for animals, and is an awesome organization that has one of the highest adoption rates in the city – and the country.

We work with CAP on a number of levels…we take several dogs each week in need of grooming to make them more comfortable and more adoptable, we take dogs who are not doing well in a shelter environment and give them an opportunity for training and higher activity, and we occasionally foster dogs in need of a place to stay while undergoing medical treatment, such as heartworm treatment.

We also support them financially with fundraisers such as a popular Howl-o-ween Dog Walk. CAP is currently in the running for a $100,000 grant from the ASPCA, and the award is heavily weighted towards an increase in number of adoptions over prior year. They have a beautiful new state of the art shelter and are able to better help even more dogs than previously…and we would like to help them win this grant. So, we are fostering more dogs in hopes of helping them win.

What Do You Want Us To Mention On The Show or Ask You

Primarily I am interested in helping to promote the wonderful work Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) does for dogs, cats and small animals here in the Houston area, and encourage people to adopt from CAP if they are considering a new addition to the family.

Rover Oaks Katy is a huge supporter of CAP and while we cater to a wonderful client base of pets and their owners, striving to provide the highest quality care for their pets, we also promote responsible dog onwership and pet adoption.

I am also involved (through friends) with helping to rescue dogs out of high kill shelters in both the Houston area and in Southern California, and have done several transports of pups in need from California to Houston to find new homes.

All of these dogs are fostered at Rover Oaks or with friends or staff and they are adopted out through CAP, so it is yet another way to help them raise their adoption numbers and hopefully win the ASPCA grant.

In general, we want to help individual dogs with good homes, but also raise awareness of the huge national problem of pet overpopulation.

Lulu Needs A Home

History or Story
Lulu’s journey began in southern California, where she was turned into Orange County shelter in March 2011. She was adopted and returned several weeks later. As a return, she was not given as much time to be adopted the second time and was at risk of euthanasia when she was pulled from the shelter by dedicated rescuer Stacy McIlveen with Helping Orphaned Hounds Rescue. Stacy and I had been working on a small transport of dogs to fly to Houston in search of new homes, and Lulu arrived in late April. Within a few weeks, she was adopted out to a family and seemed to be doing well at follow up a few weeks later. On Saturday, September 3, I received a text from Stacy that her rescue had received word from the Houston SPCA that a 12 pound poodle had been brought in by doggie ambulance, hit by a car. The owners had never registered her microchip in their name, so the rescue was notified in hopes of tracing the local owners. We were able to conta ct the owners, who surrendered her to the SPCA as they were financially unable to cover her medical bills. I contacted the shelter manager at Citizens for Animal Protection to see if they could take custody of Lulu so that I could take her back for medical treatment and foster. She was transferred to CAP on Labor Day and I picked her up at the shelter, a little broken dog who had lost a quarter of her body weight in the four months since she was adopted. Dr Patrick Choyce of All Pets Animal Hospital kindly came in on the holiday to assess and treat her, but after looking at her x-rays and all the broken bones he referred her to an orthopedic specialist. Dr. Brian Beale of Gulf Coast Surgery, Orthopedics and Neurology (and host of weekly radio show “Your Pet’s Health” on KTRH here in Houston) saw her on Tuesday the 6th and scheduled her for surgery. She had a fractured tail which was amputated, and a fractured femur and pelvis. The pelvis was broken in pieces a nd luxated, so after four hours of surgery Lulu emerged with a plate in her femur and three plates and eight screws in her pelvis. She is currently in recovery, seems to have her nerve function and with a little therapy will hopefully be ready to find a better, more responsible and loving home within a month or two.
Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal
Was life with your adoptive family ever good?
How did you become so thin?
Do you remember how you came to be on the streets, and what happened the day you were hit by a car?
Are you still in a lot of pain? And if so, what hurts the most?
What makes you feel good?
What kind of food do you like to eat so we can help you get some weight back?
What kind of home and family would be best for you?
Anything else?
Just to encourage everyone to spay/neuter their pets, adopt from shelters and rescues when considering a new family member, support their local rescues, support enactment and enforcement of tougher laws to end puppy mills!

What Is Your Passion or Your Story

I have loved dogs my entire life, and always hoped to start a dog rescue. “Luv-a-Bull” was founded 12 years ago. I began with rescuing only Pit Bulls and Bully breeds. About 3 years ago, we added small breed dogs to our program. We are a non-profit, 501c3 organization. I have a Master’s degree from Harvard University. I studied religion and public policy. My own spirituality led me to the path of “dog rescuer.” I am inspired by the Buddhist philosophy of “compassionate action.” I believe I have an obligation to do what I can to end suffering, and saving dogs from “death row” in shelters is my way to do this. Many of them have been hurt, physically and emotionally. My sanctuary, Luv-a-Bull, and the wonderful people who work here, give these dogs the opportunity to heal and move on to better lives.

It would be great if we could mention that we are entirely funded by donations and would welcome any, and that donations are tax-deductible and can be made through our PayPal account!
I would also love to mention that The Heigl Foundation of Los Angeles has been extremely generous to Luv-a-Bull, and is the main reason we are able to save so many dogs from the L.A. shelter system.

Bambi Needs A Person

Adopt Bambi

History or Story
Bambi is a Pit Bull who was rescued from a shelter in California in December of 2010and came to us soon after. We do not know how she came to be in the shelter. She was spayed and has not had puppies that we know of.Bambi passed all of her shelter-conducted temperament tests. They found her to be perfect with people and “good” with other dogs. Bambi is very gentle, submissive, trusting and loving with all people. Bambi loves everybody! When she first arrived at our facility, she was also friendly to other dogs, but this soon changed. Since her arrival here, we have introduced her to a variety of dogs belonging to people who hoped to adopt her, and she would lash out aggressively toward the dogs. She is also not friendly to any of the other large dogs here at the rescue, except for one female Pit Bull, and recently, after many weeks of slowly introducing them, a male Pit Bull. Bambi does not seem to be as aggressive toward little dogs. My feeling about Bambi’s aggression is that she is very afraid that the other dog is going to hurt her, so she attacks first, and goes on the offensive. Our problem is that nobody wants to adopt her since she is showing “dog-aggression.”
Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal
I would like to know why Bambi is so fearful and distrusting of other dogs. I would like to ask her if another dog hurt her in the past. I would like to know what I can do when introducing her to a new dog to make her feel more secure, so that she does not have to immediately “assume the worst” and become aggressive and lash out at the dog. I would like to know how she is most comfortable meeting a new dog…what approach should we take? I would like to know what kind of a home she would like to have. Does she want to live in a home with another dog she can trust, or would she prefer to be the only dog? How can I best explain to potential adoptors what her concerns and fears are? And why does she love and trust people so much? She is soooo loving and submissive!
Anything else?
Our rescue organization has successfully adopted out hundreds of dogs over the years. We try very hard to make the best match of dog to person, based on factors of compatibility. We really try to understand the dog first, and then look for the best possible match in a human caretaker. We ask people to think hard about their activities and lifestyle and what type of dog personality and breed would best suit them. We give them as much information about each of our dogs as we possibly can. We believe that there is a person for every dog and a dog for every person, and that with some patience and time, we can make both dogs and people happy.

History or Story

TUG NEEDS A PERSON

Tug came to us after an Animal Control investigation. We know very little about him, aside from the fact that he took weeks to emerge from his crate, and for the most part: he seems to just want to be loved. He has been adopted out and returned to us twice.
Questions You Would Like To Ask The Animal
What was life like before you came to us?
Why were you so scared?
What was life like with the other families? Why were you returned to us?
How do you feel now?
