When asked not to scratch the furniture, Leeloo says:
“This is disturbing. It’s disturbing cause it feels good on my paws to scratch the furniture. Furniture is the best to scratch on.”
As many cat owners know cats love to scratch the furniture.
Some of the reasons I have heard are, “I like to stretch my back & arms”
“I’m trimming down my nails”,
and “I am just climbing”.
What ever the reason is this you want to tell your cat:
“People like to have nice things. (picture your furniture) when you scratch our nice things it ruins them. (picture them ruined). I think it is ugly and our guest think it is ugly. (picture everyone with a disgusted sad face.). We want to keep our house nice. So we have bought you these cat scratchers (picture the cat scratchers.) Please use them.”
If the scratching is really terrible I will explain,
“Some people are so upset about their cats scratching the furniture that they take their cats in to declaw them. They cut off part of their toes to do this. This surgery is very painful and mean. You will always have your nails but I want you to know that people get so upset about this that they do mean things to their cats. Please listen to me and scratch in these places (picture the ok places.). I love you, you will always be safe. I want you to respect our things.”
cardboard scratchers with organic catnip
post with sissal rope
carpet cat trees.
It is important to keep your cats nails trimmed and give them an appropriate place to scratch.
If you see them scratching at an ok place tell them, “I’m so proud of you. You are making good decisions. Thank you.”
If you see them scratching at the wrong place:
Talk to them again and bring them to an ok place.
If all else fails:
put two-sided tape on the places that they are inappropriately scratching. The scratching will stop 🙂

July 4th – Fireworks
Talk To Your Animals
It is fireworks season again! This is a stressful time of year for even our most confident pets. Random, unpredictable popping and sizzling occur without warning, deafening our animals’ ears and confusing their senses. The smell of burning alone can send our animals into flee mode. So what do we do?
The first thing we do is to explain to our animals what is going to happen on the days leading up to Fourth of July and throughout the weekend.
I want you to sit in a quiet place with your animals. Breathe. I am going to give you something to say to your animals. While you talk to your animals, picture everything you say as if there are clips of a movie playing in your mind.
Feel every emotion and sense in your body as if it is happening to yourself at this very moment.
Say to them, “I want to explain to you what will be happening in the next few days (pictures a few sunsets and sunrises). Every year on this weekend, adults and children play with toys (picture them with one of their toys and then a human with a firework).
“These human toys make a lot of loud noises (hear sizzling and popping in your head). They also burn (remember the smell in you mind), but are safe (picture the burning only being around a firework). These toys are so wonderful for people because they fly high up in the sky and create beautiful colorful patterns in the sky or off of the toy. (Picture the fireworks and people in awe). This happens every year. People all over play with their own fireworks and then they go to a certain place on one night and watch a big display of fireworks. (Picture people playing joyfully at their home with fireworks and then traveling to where there are crowds and watching a big display).
“I know that it is scary (picture your animal scared), but you are safe and you must stay home where you are truly protected. (Picture them confident, aware, and staying home on Fourth of July). There will be no more fireworks in a few days. (Picture it quiet again after the sun rises and sets a few times). This is what I will do for you on the day where the noise is the worst (explain where they will be and how you will help them.) I love you and want you to feel safe.”
This is what you must do: All outside animals should be contained in a safe place. Many animals that would never run away flee in terror on July 4. Please bring them into a safe place (garage, laundry room … ).
Make sure they cannot climb out of windows or open the doors. At the very least lock yard gates, but inside is preferable.
Bring all your animals in at least an hour or two before nightfall. Once the noise starts it will be harder to find them. Close all windows, turn on fans or AC, leave the TV or light classical music on. Close shades so that the animals do not see the fireworks.
If your animal is frightened inside you can put a T-shirt on your animal. Safety-pin the shirt around the stomach so it is snug. This can give awareness to your dog’s body and can create more confidence. Some dogs like to go under beds or in a covered crate.
Give your dog a light meal. Eating can affect the limbic system (the emotional center of the brain). If you have to sedate your animal please tell them what you are doing and the reaction of the drug so they do not get frightened when they get groggy.
You can give your animal Rescue Remedy a Bach Flower Essence. It has a calming effect on animals. You can purchase it at most health food stores.
T-Touch on your Animal can help too. T-touch is a special way to touch your animal. Practitioner Jodi Frediani says, “TTouch likely engages the parasympathetic nervous system, relaxing muscle tension and allowing heart rate, blood pressure and circulation to slow, in effect bringing stress levels down. Bringing the stress level down may allow a dog (or person or horse) to have more body awareness, which can help if the body is compensating because of a past fear or pain”

Please think of your animal this week. Take the time out to explain to them what will be happening. Be overly cautious about keeping them safe. It can save their lives.
More animals end up lost, dead, or in the shelter on Fourth of July than on any other day.
Some are never found.
Please take the time to take care of your pets!
“I have learned that if I focus on the kindness in people I will see more kindness in the world.”
I told Keegan that it is special to have another cat in the house and I believe they really do care about each other.
“I have something to say. If you think we really do care about each other than maybe she can be my friend? She is beautiful, I look up to her. I think she is smart. When we are outside she always knows when a creature is around us before I do.”
One thing lead to the next and I signed up for a weekend course. I don’t really know how it happened. I was told by somebody that I needed to do and like a robot I just signed up. I had no idea what to expect and when I asked the course instructor and others who took the course to tell me what it was about no one would answer me. I thought, “Is this some sort of cult?” but the people who were urging me to go are such happy healthy people I couldn’t truly believe it was cult. People in cults are unhealthy, right?
I said to the people, “Isn’t it odd that no one will tell me what it is about?”
They answered with, “You should have no expectations” and “I can’t explain it, just go, you’ll love it.” So I took the weekend off of work and I went.
I am not going to tell you what I learned in the course… just because. But I will tell you that at the very end we were meditating and I put the question out into the universe, “Should I have a horse in my life?”
Immediately I heard a voice in my head that said, “Yes, an Appaloosa needs you.” I thought of an Appaloosa I recently fell in love with in Bend Oregon, but she is owned by a friend who takes the best care of her that anyone could.
Then I saw an image of myself riding an Appaloosa. I knew she was not mine in the image. She was someone I had permission to ride. Then I saw the farm she was at and a horse trainer I am friends with.
In less than an hour I am on the phone with the horse trainer. After a few moments of her going through the Appaloosas she knows she figured it out. There is one at that very farm I saw in my mind and the young woman who owns her recently mentioned she doesn’t have much time for the horse anymore.
In 30 minutes from that I was meeting the young woman with the Appaloosa. Remarkable in swift time, I now have permission to get to know this horse and to help the young woman with her.
Amazing to me. The young woman mentioned that just a week early she asked the universe for help …. and I have been asking the universe for a horse I can play with but do not have to own and take on all the responsibilities for. Get my feet wet in the whole horse in my life again scene. “There must be someone who thinks it is cool to have the pet psychic hang out with their horse. A win win for all of us.” I kept telling myself.
The art of manifestation seemed to be something that happened to other people. I had a pretty good childhood. I could manifest a lot of things back then, but as an adult my path towards manifestation has not really been a straight arrow. It curved around boulders and up slippery muddy hills only to be pitched to the bottom in search of another way up the hill.
I sigh because I have not been angry or upset about this course of action my life usually takes because I know I have been learning skills on how to climb muddy hills and which hills to even bother to climb but so often I get almost right to the top and then I slip back down again. It gets a bit tiresome.
I don’t know what my future will be with this Appaloosa and her person but for now, just in the beginning, I am happy it manifested and it may be a great thing for all of us.
And perhaps my readers will be able to hear a horse’s perspective to life’s issues in addition to my five companion animals. If it is cool with the young woman who owners her of course.
The Appaloosa says, “I also asked for help so that my person and I can understand each-other better. And I also wanted someone to be able to tell the people that work with me that I want to do good. That I want to learn. I wished people could hear me so that they would know that. I never want to hurt anyone on purpose. I want to be loved.”
“I like to play a lot and Wyatt (older dog in house) is my best friend because he tells me when I should be scared and when I should be brave.”
Diggity Doo says,
“Of course I have something I want to say. Mom, when you have trouble with a friend, what you should do is think about it and then imagine going to the bathroom and getting rid of it. I think about the best way to get rid of something is flushing it down the toilet.”
“I think what would be good for mom (person) is to just believe in herself.
I believe I am a strong warrior and maybe she could believe that she is a strong growing soul. She is beautiful.
I love my sister cat too. She is really wise. Often I ask her questions. She knows that every year the sun sets earlier and earlier. Each winter I forget that the days will get longer in Spring. Every year my sister reminds me of that.”
Touching Story by Weekly World News
All creatures deserve compassion.
The Bull Who Cried: Knowing it was about to be slaughtered, a bull in Hong Kong did what many people fail to realize or are skeptic about when it comes to animals – he showed emotion.
As reported by a World News Source”, a group of workers walked a bull to a packaging factory. They were about to slaughter him to make steaks and beef stews. When they were close to the front door of the slaughter house, the sorrowful bull suddenly stopped going forward and knelt down on his two front legs. The bull… was all in tears. How did he know he was going to be killed before he entered the slaughter house?
Mr. Shiu, a butcher recalled, “When I saw this so-called “stupid” animal sobbing and saw in his eyes fear and sorrow, I started trembling.”
“I called the rest over to see. They were just as surprised. We kept pushing the bull forward, but he just didn’t want to move and sat there crying.””
Billy Fong, owner of the packaging factory said, “People thought animals didn’t cry like human beings. However that bull really sobbed like a baby.””
At that time, more than ten men witnessed the scene and they were all touched. Those who were responsible for slaughtering felt even more touched and cried as well. Other workers at the same slaughter house also came to see the crying bull. They were all shocked by this scene. Three of them said they would never forget this crying bull when they slaughtered other animals.
With both man and animal crying, everyone knew that nobody could kill the bull. The problem was, what should they do with him?
In the end, they raised funds to buy this crying bull and sent him to a temple, where the kind monks would take care of him for life.
After the workers had made a decision, a miracle happened. A worker said,
“When we promised this bull that we will not kill him, he started moving and followed us.”
“How did he understand people’s words?”
Mr. Shiu said “ Believe it or not? This is real although it sounds unbelievable.”
No doubt, this bull changed these butchers’ lives. Hopefully this story has in turn changed yours.

“Can I tell my mom something when she sat me down and she told me that I need to listen to the other dogs and go to the bathroom where they go I understood her. I have been going outside cause I learned.
At my old home my person she had anxiety. She took medicine to make her stay calm and I was a dog to keep her calm but she said I gave her more anxiety. I told her that she should nap more because she stays up too late at night and she didn’t listen. She gave me away cause she said that I was not smart but I thought I was smart.
She had me since I was little and she sometimes would drink so much she would forget to take me out.
I want to say that my mom and dad have special talks with me that tell me how to understand them. They tell me to be quiet and they look at me and they teach me to listen. Also my mom sometimes when she pets me she tells me how much a good boy I am and I am learning to listen to people with my ears and my mind.
I learned this family wants you to go out and they have an alive brain. I am learning.”
“I get bored in my neighborhood and when I am out in another neighborhood I am excited to see everything that is out there and I also like all the new smells. “

“For a horse, knowing you have a home for life is like having a carrot you can always eat!”
Telling a horse they have a home for life is one of my favorite things to do. Horses often have many homes in their lifetime and it is too easy for them to fall into cruel hands.
There are occasions where some people have me tell their horse they have a home for life and then the people go back on their promise. This breaks my heart more than anyone can imagine.
