Essential Oils For Pets & Their People

I have been using Young Living Essential Oils on a daily basis. When I am home they are always diffusing in the house.

Here are some of the reasons I use them:

They help me stay grounded and cleared of energy I may pick up from each psychic session.

They help me and the animals sleep! The dogs bark, itch, scratch and lick less!

I can rub them on the dogs’ tummies when they have belly aches or are panting at night.

I have rubbed them on my chest when I had a heart ache. They helped to transform my sadness faster.

I have more peaceful meditations.

I rub them on the dogs when we go for walks or to agility class. The dogs are calmer and more grounded.

My little house no longer smells like 7 animals! It smells fresh, inviting and soooo good!

They help me stay alert, clear and focused when I have long work days talking to the animals and people!

I rub them on myself when I know I am going to see a lot of people. (I am a hermit introvert by nature). They help me stay confident and present.

My cat Ella has stopped licking the hair off her belly. She is more confident and relaxed around loud noises.

I just love the ritual of choosing which oil I want to diffuse and filling the diffuser.

Its so much fun! I have never been huge into “smells” though I find it amazing how each scent creates a different feeling in me and the animals.

I have more vivid dreams. Even some premonition dreams!

I no longer have moths in house! I believe they help with fleas!

I am just more happy and peaceful.

I use them in my laundry too….

When I was back home in NY my sister Zoë Grave and I had some fun doing an Instagram story talking to her two dogs Leia and Obi about Essential Oils. (Yes, my sis is a Star Wars Fan!)

CATS AND ESSENTIAL OILS

 

 

This is Ella. She often lies near the essential oil diffuser.

She says, “I love the oils because they make me feel more myself. It smells like outside while you’re inside. I don’t over-groom my belly anymore, because I’m less stressed about shadows (she doesn’t see well) and more peaceful about everything. I love to smell all the different smells. Stress away with lavender is my favorite. Also I love the oil Joy too. I don’t like frankincense with peppermint as much because it makes my nose tickle. It’s fun to smell the different smells.”

 

ARE ESSENTIAL OILS GOOD FOR CATS OR NOT?!

 

Zoë answers :

Diffusing is an easy and gentle way to get the smell and health benefits of essential oils into the air as opposed to ingesting

With cats and dogs the main thing is that they should always have the option to leave the room when the diffuser is running. They should be able to come and go as they please. You can tell pretty much instantaneously if the animal is bothered by the smell or not.

I would also suggest that you start off diffusing just a few drops and then build up as they get used to it. When introducing the oil to an animal you can begin by taking the top off the bottle and kind of wafting it in front of their face. Then watch their reaction and it will give you a good sense of what they think.

With regards to cats, if you google essential oils and cats there can be some scary warnings. But if you dig deeper and look particularly at young living (Young Living and Doterra are the only two companies I would ever get oils from for not only myself and my family, but also for my animals) there are actually a lot of misconceptions. The Animal Desk Reference, which is awesome, says “Diffusion is usually a method that is well tolerated by all cats, especially from water-based diffuser models” (like Young Living’s Desert Mist diffuser we recommend). The book covers basically every animal you can think of and how to best use essential oils to support them.

That being said most people suggest not using the following oils around cats :

Oregano
Wintergreen
Clove
Mountain savory
Thyme
Citrus oils

These are oils high in phenols. Again I think this warning is more for topically than diffusing, and every expert on the subject will have a different opinion.

I have dogs and horses and we have had wonderful experiences with oils and especially Young Living’s Animal Scents line. Their ointment is one of my favorites!
