Ella From Heaven
This photo was taken back in 2019. She wasn’t thrilled about a photo shoot, but she was so brave. I love seeing her a little chunky here, before she lost so much weight. I had forgotten that she loved the Christmas lights.
“Where I am, the space is filled with golden light. I carry you and the family with me wherever I go. When I was alive, you taught me to trust myself. Even though I could not see well, you taught me to walk as if I could. That bravery helps me here, even though I see with great precision now.
I have explored amazing places. The living room of your grandparents’ house, with the smell of tomato sauce lingering through the rooms. There is a tree with Christmas lights that I can lie under whenever I want. It smells like the sweet needles of our trees.
I go with you places when you do not know that I am there. I care for you the way you cared for me. At night I still sleep with you, and now when you work, I sit on your lap and lay across the table. None of us are afraid here. We live with a sense of peace.
Tell others not to feel guilty for where they fell short. It is not what we remember. We remember being loved, and our connection to you never dies.”
