When I was little, I would spend time with animals trying to match their breathing or recognizing how mine was different. I always knew there was something special about concentrating on one’s breath while being in a loving state. I didn’t realize it then but what I was doing was self-regulating my emotions.
Now, as an adult, I find life flows more peacefully when I periodically pause my awareness into my heart and truly feel the rise and fall of my breath.
Not only does this awareness help me to regulate my emotions into a greater peace of mind, but it also helps the animals around me. The calmer I am, the more peaceful they are.
Practice this and watch. How does your heart-centered breathing affect not only yourself but the ones around you?
