I found Serafina at an old walnut orchard I use to caretake. I was driving by one morning and was looking for a bobcat that would hunt in the orchard. I spotted Serafina instead. She was very thin and hunteing a squirrel twice her size. She told me a man had thrown her out of the car in a box for peeing on the front porch. She had worms and was very sick. She followed me into the car and instantly became friends with the dogs. This is her first diary entry on this blog,
The most important thing for me to say is that today I found myself on the other side of the fence. I was on the sidewalk. I have never done that before. I was standing there and these people where walking down the street towards me and I decided I would just sit there to see what they were going to do. You know not all people like cats. I forced myself to sit in the middle of the sidewalk. They kept walking. When they noticed me the woman smiled but the man looked at me like I was strange because I was not going to move. They had a little kid with them that was on one of those bikes with three wheels. The woman got in front of the man and kid and I just sat there. Then she reached down to pet me and I got scared and ran through the fence and into the back yard. Once I was in the back yard, I lied on the ground and thought about how brave I was on the other side of the fence. I thought mom would be mad at me, but I think she is happy when I am telling this story that I didn’t cross the street or get stolen. I have a collar on me. It has my name on it. I think it is important to tell your pets that they have a collar with their name and their peoples phone number. I used to always pull my collars off. I hated the way they felt. And then one day mom explained to me about a tag with my name on it and how it has mom’s phone number on it and if I ever get lost I should show it to a person. Now I dont want to loose my collar because I want to always beable to come home again. Being lost would be such a terrible thing. It happened to me because my person threw me away. I missed all the other animals where I used to live. I had dogs and cats and goats and horses. Now I have birds. Lots of birds.
Serafina has beautiful eyes!
